About Elengard: Ascension

Elengard: Ascension is a medieval fantasy RPG that mixes real-time combat with strategic pauses. Developed by Stèphano M. M. G., it released on PC in January 2026. You play as a cursed protagonist seeking answers while battling corruption that spreads across the world. The game leans into action-RPG mechanics with a focus on skill builds, combo systems, and adaptive tactics. Think of it as a story-driven experience where you balance fast-paced fights with thoughtful upgrades. The setting is a mix of serene villages and dark, decaying landscapes, all tied together by a narrative about identity and redemption. If you like deep character customization and blending strategy with action, this one’s for you.

Gameplay

You control a single character in real-time battles but can pause to plan your next move. Combat revolves around chaining abilities, managing energy, and exploiting enemy weaknesses. Exploration is linear but layered, with side quests tied to the world’s decay. Sessions often involve fighting hordes of enemies, adjusting your build mid-battle, and experimenting with skill combos. The pause mechanic lets you reposition, switch weapons, or adjust spells before resuming action. You’ll spend 30, 40% of time grinding for resources to upgrade gear, 20% planning strategies, and the rest fighting. The interface is cluttered but functional, and controls prioritize responsiveness over simplicity. It’s not a story-driven RPG first, this is a build-optimizer’s dream.

What Players Think

The PlayPile community rates Elengard 4.3/5, with 72% completing the main story. Average playtime is 25 hours, and 45% of players finish 100% content. Positive moods cite the depth of skill builds and the game’s evolving world design. Critics point to repetitive enemy AI and a steep learning curve. One review says, “The pause mechanic feels clunky but gives you control over every fight.” Another warns, “The story is okay, but the grind for gear is relentless.” Achievement completion is 82%, with 30% of players hitting 100% in skill combos. The game’s price ($39.99) is considered fair for its replayability.

PlayPile's Take

Elengard: Ascension is a niche pick for players obsessed with optimizing builds and tactical combat. It’s not for casual fans, expect a punishing grind and a story that pales next to its gameplay loops. The $40 price tag is reasonable given the 30+ hour runtime and endless build possibilities. If you’ve ever spent hours tweaking a character in Dark Souls or Slay the Spire, this will scratch that itch. Skip it if you prefer tight narratives or streamlined combat. It’s a solid 8/10 for strategy enthusiasts, but don’t expect a masterpiece.
