About Eternal Haunt

Eternal Haunt is a first-person survival horror game from True Ronin Games, dropping October 2026. It’s a tense blend of puzzle-solving and resource management set in a snowbound Japanese forest. You play as Kiyoshi, an old man searching for his missing grandson in a storm, only to get trapped in a derelict hut haunted by Yuki-Onna. The vibe is claustrophobic and eerie, with shifting scares and environmental puzzles. It’s not a traditional jump-scare fest but leans into slow-burn dread. If you like methodical gameplay and atmospheric tension over action, this one’s got you. PC only, single-player only.

Gameplay

You navigate a maze-like hut in first-person, fumbling with dim lighting and freezing temperatures. The core loop is scavenging for materials to craft tools, solving puzzles to unlock paths, and avoiding Yuki-Onna’s ghostly presence. Puzzles involve arranging objects, manipulating the environment, and timing moves between her appearances. Controls are twitchy, your character moves stiffly, which adds to the unease. The cold meter forces you to prioritize warmth over exploration, making every decision feel risky. Sessions last 2-3 hours per chapter, with a total playtime averaging 8-10 hours. The game punishes hesitation but rewards careful planning.

What Players Think

PlayPile users rate it 92%, with 85% on Metacritic. Average playtime is 9.2 hours, and 68% finish the full game. Community moods: 74% “anxious,” 61% “determined,” and 45% “unsettled.” Reviews highlight the “eerie tension” and “rewarding puzzles,” though some call the controls “frustrating.” Achievement data shows 50+ unlocks, with 72% of players averaging 40% completion. One user wrote, “The cold mechanic kept me paranoid the whole time,” while another griped, “Puzzles drag in the middle act.” Metacritic’s top critic called it “a masterclass in minimalist horror.”

PlayPile's Take

Eternal Haunt is a niche win for fans of slow-burn horror and logic puzzles. At $29.99, it’s a mid-tier buy, especially if you’ve got patience for its methodical pace. The 72% average achievement rate suggests it’s beatable without rage-quitting, but the clunky movement and mid-game slump might test your resolve. Skip it if you want combat or fast action. Stick with it if you crave a cerebral, atmospheric experience where every creak and shadow matters. Your 10 hours will either feel earned or agonizing, depends on your tolerance for tension.
