Heretical is a rogue-lite RPG with hack-and-slash combat where you play as one of several heroes trying to scale Sanctora Mountain and challenge Abidan, a tyrannical cult leader. Each ascent involves battling through waves of enemies and guardians, with your choices and acquired abilities shaping how you approach fights. When you fall, you don’t start over empty-handed, you unlock new mechanics, weapons, and characters that carry over to future runs, adjusting the challenge and giving you fresh tools to tackle the mountain. The game’s strength lies in its balance of challenge and progression. Every death feels meaningful, adding layers to the gameplay without making previous runs feel obsolete. With multiple playable heroes, each with distinct playstyles, there’s room to experiment with different strategies. The combat is fast-paced but tactical, requiring you to adapt as you climb higher.
