About Kingdoms and Slaves

Kingdoms and Slaves is an adventure-indie game from TGM, released on PC on January 7, 2026. Set in a fantasy world, it follows the collapse of a kingdom after its rulers exploit a dangerous crystal, leading to addiction and decay. Players navigate a narrative about power, corruption, and the enslaved Greenin race, who are biologically tied to the crystals. The game blends single-player campaigns with co-op and multiplayer modes, letting you collaborate or compete in managing resources and survival. With its grim story and focus on societal collapse, it’s a title that leans into dark themes and player-driven choices.

Gameplay

The gameplay centers on resource management and base-building, with players harvesting crystals while mitigating their toxic effects. You’ll manage a faction of Greenin laborers, balancing their survival against the king’s demands. Each session involves assigning workers to mines, treating corruption symptoms, and defending against hostile factions. The curse introduces mechanics like health decay and sanity loss, requiring strategic use of limited medical supplies. Multiplayer modes add layers of negotiation and betrayal, as alliances shift over resource control. The UI is functional but minimalistic, favoring depth over polish. Progression ties to unlocking new tools and escape routes for the Greenin, with late-game focus on rebellion or survival.

What Players Think

PlayPile users rate Kingdoms and Slaves 4.1/5, with 62% completing the main story in 15-20 hours. 78% of players report enjoying co-op, though 30% cite bugs in multiplayer syncing. Average playtime is 18.5 hours, with 45% of users hitting 100% completion. Community moods are split: 55% label it “thought-provoking,” while 25% call it “frustratingly niche.” Review snippets praise its bold themes (“a grim, memorable take on exploitation”) but criticize repetitive early-game tasks. 68% of players own all DLCs, and 40% have unlocked over 90% achievements, including the rare “Corruption Master” title.

PlayPile's Take

Kingdoms and Slaves is a divisive but ambitious indie title. At $29.99, it offers solid value for fans of resource management and dystopian narratives, but its steep learning curve and grind-heavy mechanics may deter casual players. With 240+ achievements, it rewards completionists, though 30% of players abandon it before 50% completion. If you enjoy systemic storytelling and don’t mind a rough polish, it’s worth a shot. For others, wait for a sale or post-launch patches.
