Clever Plays Studio dropped this indie title on March 30, 2016 for PC and PlayStation 4. You control a technomage in a cyberpunk New York City where magic actually works. The game is a top-down hack and slash that mixes shooting with melee combat. Your goal is to survive the Crucible of Fates by unlocking terrifying powers. This roguelite demands you push through repeated attempts to master its mechanics. It feels like a chaotic arcade shooter wrapped in a dark urban fantasy setting. The visual style leans heavily on neon lights and gritty street corners while you blast through enemies.
You move freely across the map while targeting enemies with both guns and magic spells. Combat happens fast as you dodge bullets and close the distance to slash foes with your weapon. Each run forces you to adapt because death sends you back to the start. You must collect upgrades between trials to build stronger abilities for later attempts. The controls feel responsive during these frantic encounters where screen space fills with projectiles. Single player mode keeps the focus entirely on your survival skills without relying on teammates. You will spend most minutes learning enemy patterns and timing your dodges perfectly. Progression happens through unlocking new spells and weapons rather than traditional level systems.
Critics liked this one enough to give it an 80 out of 100 on Metacritic. PlayPile data shows the community enjoys the challenge with a high completion rate for early runs. Players spend an average of 12 hours trying to beat all 50 achievements. The hardest unlock is True Rogue Occultist at just 1.30% which suggests a brutal final test. Most users feel excited rather than frustrated by the difficulty spikes. Community moods lean toward intense focus during gameplay sessions. Review snippets often mention the tight controls and satisfying spell combinations as standout features. Few people quit before seeing the end credits despite the permadeath mechanic.
This game works well for players who want a short but hard roguelite experience. The 50 achievements offer plenty of replay value even after finishing the main story. At its current price point it delivers solid value given the 12 hour average playtime. You should play if you enjoy mastering tough mechanics and don't mind dying often. The rare achievement at 1.30% proves this title respects your time by being genuinely difficult. Skip this one only if you dislike repetitive failure cycles or prefer relaxed pacing. The cyberpunk setting adds flavor without getting in the way of the action.
Leap of Fate is a furiously-paced cyberpunk roguelite about overcoming your fears and achieving your fate. In a New York City where magic is real, you play as a technomage who must develop unspeakable powers to confront the Crucible of Fates. Can you survive the trials?
