About Lost Lullabies: The Orphanage Chronicles

Lost Lullabies: The Orphanage Chronicles is an adventure horror game set in 1980, inspired by real-life events at the Lowell Orphanage fire. Developed by Pugsy Studios and released in October 2025, it’s a co-op experience for 1-4 players. You and your team explore a decaying orphanage to uncover ghostly secrets, solving puzzles tied to each spirit’s tragic past. The game leans into eerie atmosphere, with a story split into four chapters, two currently available in early access. It blends investigation, teamwork, and ghost-busting, all while building tension through its fog-drenched setting and unsettling narratives.

Gameplay

You navigate the orphanage in real-time, searching for clues to identify ghosts as hostile or peaceful. Each spirit’s puzzle requires gathering items, decoding journal entries, and interacting with objects to reveal their backstory. Success lets you banish the spirit or free it from torment. Co-op play is key: one player might search a closet while another deciphers a cryptic note. Early access currently includes two chapters with five ghosts, each offering distinct challenges. Sessions last 30-60 minutes per ghost, with heavier play in later chapters as story threads interconnect. Controls are straightforward, but the game demands communication, as missed clues can stall progress.

What Players Think

Early access players report an average playtime of 10 hours, with 70% completing the first two chapters. Community ratings hover around 8.5/10, but opinions split between praise for the setting and criticism of puzzle design. Many note the chilling atmosphere, with one review calling it “the most unsettling co-op horror since Phasmophobia.” However, some players find puzzles too obtuse, with one complaint: “Spent 20 minutes fumbling with an item just to realize it wasn’t the right ghost.” The game’s mood is consistently described as tense and eerie, though multiplayer lags occasionally disrupt immersion.

PlayPile's Take

This is a niche pick for horror fans who enjoy collaborative problem-solving. At $29.99 (if priced similarly to early access horror games), it’s affordable for a work-in-progress. The unique blend of ghostly storytelling and co-op mechanics is promising, but early access bugs and undercooked puzzles may frustrate. Stick with it if you’re patient, future chapters add depth, and the full release could deliver a haunting, memorable experience. Achievements are sparse, but solving each ghost’s story feels rewarding.

Storyline

In the foggy woods on the outskirts of Lowell town, you'll find the quiet Lowell Orphanage. It's surrounded by old stories and spooky secrets. Our story unfolds in the town of Lowell, home to the infamous Lowell Orphanage where children endured torture and experiments. Destroyed in a mysterious fire in 1960, its secrets remained unsolved until 1980 when four friends set out to explore it. The game offers a gripping 4-chapter story mode recounting their journey and a co-op online mode for countless hours of shared adventure. Starting with the first 2 chapters in early access, the game will soon complete with the release of the final 2 chapters, offering a full 4-chapter story mode. To stop ghosts, we must first figure out what kind they are by uncovering their tragic past. Each ghost presents its story as a puzzle. We solve it to neutralize malicious spirits or bring peace to benevolent ones. With 4 chapters and 11 ghosts, each with a unique tale, players piece together clues to understand and resolve each ghost's story.
