About

Resident Evil Assault the Nightmare is a mobile survival horror title from Capcom that dropped in late 2002. You play a cop investigating a remote mansion after receiving an SOS signal. The environment is claustrophobic and tense, filled with familiar eerie vibes from the Resident Evil series. Your goal is to navigate the building, avoid threats, and fight a licker in a boss battle. The game ends with one of four outcomes depending on which survivor you rescue, a dog, a man, a woman, or two kids. The design leans into classic survival mechanics, with limited resources and a focus on exploration. This title exists as a niche entry in the franchise, tailored for early mobile devices in Japan before a 2004 international release. Its compact format and branching endings set it apart from other mobile games of the era, though it remains largely forgotten. The mansion’s design and character’s role are clearly inspired by the original Resident Evil, making it a curious artifact for longtime fans. The game’s survival elements and multiple endings keep it engaging despite its tiny screen size.

Storyline

The game takes place at an isolated mansion on the hills, which is sometimes refereed to as a castle depending on the version of the game. The player controls a police officer who was sent to investigate after the local police precinct received an emergency call (or "SOS signal" in some versions) from there. After searching around the mansion, the player character is able to unlock a corridor where a licker is fought as the final boss. After defeating the licker, there are four possible endings with the protagonist rescuing a survivor of the incident. The survivor can be a dog, an adult man, a crying woman, or a pair of children. The game location presumably is a nod to the Arklay mansion, and the player character apparently is a representation of Chris Redfield.
