About Terrorbytes

Terrorbytes is an indie adventure game developed by Treetop and published by Over The Moon. Released on November 18, 2025, it blends survival mechanics with a co-op focused mystery set inside a glitching haunted arcade. You play as twisted ghosts fleeing Ms. Croak-Man while collecting pellets to power safe rooms and figure out the virus that trapped you. Available on PC, it supports single player, multiplayer, and co-op modes. The game mixes frantic platforming with light puzzle-solving, all while balancing survival tension and story progression.

Gameplay

You spend most of your time darting between rooms, dodging Ms. Croak-Man’s attacks while gathering glowing pellets to upgrade your safe zone. Each session involves quick reflexes, jumping over hazards, timing escapes, and coordinating with a partner in co-op. The safe room mechanic forces strategic planning: more pellets mean bigger defenses, but you’re constantly on the clock. Between runs, you piece together story fragments from corrupted arcade data. Controls are tight but demand precision, especially during chaotic chases. The mix of platforming, resource management, and environmental storytelling keeps the pace brisk.

What Players Think

Community ratings on PlayPile average 8.7/10, with 68% completing the story. Average playtime is 12.5 hours, though 47% of players finish the core loop under 15 hours. Moods are split: 52% “excited,” 31% “tense,” and 17% “confused” by the narrative’s abstract tone. Review snippets praise the co-op chemistry (“feels like a digital tag-team wrestling match”) but criticize inconsistent pacing. Completion rate drops sharply after Act 2, where 28% of players abandon the game. Achievements are plentiful (37 total) but often require repeat runs, with the rarest unlock needing a 100% safe room upgrade.

PlayPile's Take

Terrorbytes works best with a friend, offering satisfying co-op synergy and frantic set pieces. At $34.99, it’s a mid-tier indie with replay value for completionists. The story leans surreal, which may alienate some, its 17% “confused” rating is no fluke. If you enjoy co-op survival or arcade-style aesthetics, it’s worth the price. Skip if you prefer linear narratives or precise pacing. The 37 achievements add incentive but don’t fix the game’s uneven middle act.

Storyline

A terrible and sadistic virus has twisted and turned everything upside down, including the players: In a cruel mockery, players are forced to take the role of the ghosts (the game’s old villains) and run from Ms Croak-Man. Can you survive long enough to uncover the mysterious evil that has trapped you, and escape?
