Virtua Cop drops you into a first-person law enforcement role where you wield a light gun to take down criminals in a series of on-foot missions. Each level challenges you to eliminate targets while avoiding accidental civilian casualties, which cost points and progress. Powerups litter the scenes, offering temporary weapons or extra lives, but losing your current tool if hit. The split-screen mode lets two players tackle the chaos together though coordination is key to avoid friendly fire. This 1994 Sega AM2 title made a splash with its shift from 2D sprites to polygonal 3D graphics paving the way for later hits like House of the Dead and Time Crisis. The ability to shoot through glass added a layer of realism and strategy a first in the genre. Its name ties to the “Virtua” brand of Sega’s early 3D experiments including Virtua Fighter and Virtua Racing. Though arcade focused the PC and Saturn ports let home players experience the same tense on-rails action that defined arcade light-gun classics.
