3D3D is a maze navigation game from the early 80s that plays like a puzzle in three dimensions. You maneuver through a cube-shaped grid, moving left right up down and through openings in floors and ceilings. The goal is to reach the exit while avoiding dead ends. Controls are simple but require spatial awareness as the environment shifts perspectives to disorient you. Created by Jeff Minter of Llamasoft on the Sinclair ZX81 3D3D predates modern 3D gaming by decades. Its clever use of limited hardware to simulate depth earned praise from retro gaming communities. With a runtime under ten minutes but countless replay attempts it remains a cult favorite among ZX81 enthusiasts. The simplicity and clever design have inspired later maze games though few match its compact charm.
