"A Plague Tale: Requiem is relentless in its depiction of misery. It imparts the troubling message that no matter how hard we try, we can’t change the future, and trying to do so only invites more pain and suffering than willingly submitting to our eventual demise. A series about two children losing their innocence and being corrupted by the evils of the world is one I welcome, but not when it teaches us to give up instead of fighting for a future all our own. The world may seem hopeless right now, but if we give in to the despair we’re choosing doom, and I’d rather go down slinging."

Asobo Studio released A Plague Tale: Requiem on October 18, 2022, for PC, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch. This single-player adventure follows siblings Amicia and Hugo as they flee the French Inquisition while battling swarms of plague-ridden rats. The story picks up after their escape from a destroyed homeland, sending them south toward new cities and a mythical island believed to hold a cure for Hugo's cursed bloodline. You control Amicia directly in this action-adventure title that emphasizes stealth and narrative over open-world exploration. It feels like a tight, linear chapter focusing on survival mechanics rather than sandbox freedom. The game runs well across multiple platforms despite its heavy reliance on lighting effects and crowd rendering.
You spend most of your time crouching behind crates or hiding in tall grass to avoid detection by Inquisition soldiers. The rat swarms act as environmental hazards that force constant movement since they consume anything caught in the dark. Combat has expanded significantly from the first game with new slingshot upgrades and stealth takedowns. You unlock skills through a progression system that tailors your approach, offering faster sneaking or more lethal melee options depending on your choices. Each level features larger maps than before, allowing multiple paths to reach objectives. Sessions typically involve solving simple environmental puzzles to create distractions or light torches while managing limited resources. The controls feel responsive whether you are swinging a lantern or reloading a crossbow.
Critics and players agree this sequel hits hard with an OpenCritic score of 83 out of 100 and strong recommendation rates. IGN Middle East gave it a perfect 95, praising the story as impressive and superior to the original in many sections. God is a Geek scored it a 90, calling it a runaway hit that builds on previous foundations. The IGDB community rating sits at 84.8 from 262 users. Average playtime suggests most people finish the campaign without rushing, though completion rates vary by player type. Only 35 achievements exist in the game, and the average unlock rate sits at 37.9 percent. The rarest trophy is "Malignant" with just a 5.50 percent unlock rate, indicating a significant challenge for completionists. Current market data shows the cheapest price is $16.95 on GameBillet.
This title works best for players who want a gripping story without complex RPG systems or multiplayer modes. The combat expansion makes encounters more satisfying than in the predecessor, though the stealth sections remain demanding. At $16.95 during sales events, the price point offers good value given the production quality and length. The achievement system provides enough extra incentive for those willing to hunt down the elusive "Malignant" trophy. You should avoid this if you prefer open-world freedom or fast-paced action without stealth elements. The game delivers a complete narrative experience that ends on a strong note rather than dragging out its conclusion.
After escaping their devastated homeland, Amicia and Hugo travel far south to new regions and vibrant cities. There, they attempt to start a new life and control Hugo’s curse. But when Hugo’s powers reawaken, death and destruction return in a flood of devouring rats. Forced to flee once more, the siblings place their hopes on a prophesized island that may hold the key to saving Hugo.
