"Being a fan of classic tales, I was excited to try Once a Tale. As well as following the adventures of the siblings abandoned by their parents in the forest, the integration of other well-known characters is perfectly suited. There are even optional allusions to collectables, such as Jean de La Fontaine's fable The Raven and the Fox. The developers have devoted a great deal of research and respect to the original works. They pay tribute to them in their own way, and it works quite well."

About

A Whittle Tale is a 3D platformer where you control a character with modular tails that let you leap, drift, and manipulate the environment. Each tail grants distinct skills like climbing or sliding, and swapping them is key to solving puzzles and progressing through hand-carved levels. You collect Obal coins to unlock new areas across different realms, with a focus on exploration and precise movement. The game’s charm comes from its tactile, wooden aesthetic and the way each level feels like a physical playset. The standout here is the tail system, which adds a layer of strategy to platforming without overcomplicating things. Community feedback highlights the creativity of the level design, with many noting how each realm introduces fresh challenges while keeping the core mechanics tight. Its art style and playful tone have drawn comparisons to classic 3D platformers, but the emphasis on tool-switching feels distinct. Shorter levels help maintain momentum, and the coin collection goal gives exploration a clear purpose.
