"Aaero is a new beginning for rhythm action games, as it draws on the genre’s past strengths and makes them its own. It has a different outlook – completionists may balk at the improbability of a ‘perfect’ run – but equally that could make it all the more alluring to those looking for a true score attack experience that doesn’t give up its wares so easily. Aaero’s setting may be apocalyptic, but its outlook is full of hope for a genre that still deserves its place in the here and now."

Aaero is a fast-paced shooter where you pilot a ship through vibrant, stylized levels while syncing attacks to a pulsating soundtrack. Each stage forces you to balance dodging enemy fire with charging up energy by following the rhythm. The controls are tight and responsive letting you chain moves to the beat. Boss fights require timing and pattern recognition as you exploit weaknesses between tracks. The game stands out for its curated list of licensed tracks ranging from electronic to pop. With music from acts like Noisia and Katy B the soundtrack drives every aspect of gameplay. Though developed by a small team the polish shows. Released in 2017 it remains a niche pick for players who enjoy rhythm-based mechanics mixed with shooter gameplay. Available on PS4 PC and Xbox One it offers a concise but energetic single-player experience.
