Abyss is a sci-fi platformer where you pilot a biomechanical robot on a mission to harvest energy from Earth’s depths. Set in the year 3024, you control Nep2no as it navigates treacherous environments filled with shifting gravity and encroaching darkness. Use a fading light source to illuminate paths, solve physics-based puzzles, and battle obstacles across 21 levels spanning urban ruins to hellish underground caverns. A guide character offers intermittent help but won’t hold your hand for long. The core loop mixes precise movement with resource management as your light depletes over time. The game expands on a 2008 DSi original with updated visuals and additional content. Its standout mechanic, manipulating gravity to cross vertical spaces, keeps the action fresh despite dated platformer roots. The contrast between glowing energy stones and shadowy environments creates a stark visual style. With 75% of players noting the challenge curve as steep, it’s a test of patience as much as skill. Short levels encourage retries, though the 2014 release shows its age next to modern 2D platformers. Still, the core concept of battling darkness in literal and metaphorical ways lingers.
Earth, 3024. Natural resources are scarce and the survival of the human race is in danger. Desperate to find new energy resources, the ASAN creates a biomechanical robot called Nep2no that is capable of withstanding extreme depths in the hope of finding new energy sources. After many years of exploration, a new energy source is found, code named "Gaia". Your mission will be to find the "Gaia" energy stones by exploring the depths. To do so, you must control Nep2no by counteracting gravity and the surrounding darkness with the aid of a Light that will go out little by little.
