Advanced Dungeons & Dragons: Dragons of Flame follows a group of adventurers facing off against dark forces in a fantasy world. The game switches between a top-down map for exploration and side-scrolling combat where timing and positioning matter. It adds resource management and character progression to its action-oriented battles, letting you adjust tactics as you take on dragons and other threats. The sequel to Heroes of the Lance leans into its Dragonlance roots, adapting events from the module and novel with nods to the lore. Its mix of arcade speed and RPG depth helped it stand out in 1989, though the difficulty curve could frustrate newer players. With ports on 10+ platforms at launch, it reached a broad audience. Nostalgic players still praise the pacing and replay value.
It is based on the second Dragonlance campaign module, Dragons of Flame, and the second half of the first Dragonlance novel Dragons of Autumn Twilight.
