Advanced V.G. 2 is a 1998 PlayStation fighter from Technical Group Laboratory that expands on its predecessor’s all-girl combat formula. Players select from 12 fighters including nine returning characters to battle through multiple modes. Arcade and story modes offer single-player progression while versus and time attack challenge reaction speed. A practice mode and stats tracker add replay value. The story mode follows Tamao Mitsurugi as she confronts rivals old and new including Kyoko Kirishima and Saki Shinjou before final showdowns with bosses Material Miranda Jahana and Reimi’s mother. The game stands out for its deep roster and structured narrative mode which was uncommon in 90s fighters. Though not a mainstream hit its blend of technical combat and character variety earned a cult following. Niche retro fighting fans appreciate the balanced mechanics and the mix of returning staples with fresh faces. With 12 distinct fighters and four core modes it remains a compact but complete entry in the genre’s late 90s wave.
The sequel to Advanced V.G. centers around a plot-driven "Story Mode" which features new protagonist Tamao Mitsurugi facing all of the previous competitors, as well as new faces Kyoko Kirishima and Saki Shinjou before going on to face the new boss characters Material and Miranda Jahana, Reimi's mother.
