Adventure Creator lets you design your own text-based adventure games by placing rooms, hallways, and hazards in a grid. You can add treasure chests, monsters, and traps to each space and save your creations to disk. Playing your games requires the original cartridge, though. A random generator also spits out playable dungeons. Combat is basic, three weapon types and one monster per screen, with the goal always centered on finding a named item. What’s notable is how stripped down the experience feels by modern standards. The target object exists only as text, never visualized, and interactions are limited by the hardware. Still, it’s a glimpse into early DIY game design, with a focus on structure over polish. Dale Disharoon’s tool leans into simplicity, making it a niche curiosity for retro computing fans.
