After the War splits into two distinct gameplay styles as you guide Jungle Rogers through a post-apocalyptic Manhattan. The first half tasks you with navigating a side-scrolling beat 'em up filled with relentless waves of enemies. You'll punch and kick through feral thieves blocking your path to safety. The second half shifts to a side-view shoot 'em up as you face off against the guardians of a fortified research facility. Both sections demand quick reflexes and timing to survive the chaotic environments. This 1989 title stands out for blending two popular arcade styles into one action-packed journey. It was released on a wide range of systems including DOS, Amiga, and Spectrum, making it accessible to many retro gamers. While the graphics and enemy variety show their era, the dual challenge of brawling and shooting holds up for quick bursts of retro action. The straightforward mission to escape a war-torn city remains simple but effective.
Year 2019, Manhattan. After a nuclear war. Out of the ashes comes a hero, Jonathan Rogers, better known as "Jungle Rogers", the owner of the asphalt jungle. The only chance of survival is to reach the airdrop platform XV-238, located in the control base of the schizophrenic assassin professor McJerin, and to escape to outer colonies.
