Agalta II continues the story of Ares and his allies after they defeat the main villain in the first game. Their return voyage to Saladin goes awry when a storm crashes their airship onto a foreign continent. Rescued by Safaya’s king, the trio must now defend his kingdom from strange creatures. The gameplay mixes turn-based combat with exploration of new regions, including overworld maps and dungeon crawls. Players manage character growth, equipment, and strategy across a narrative that splits focus between the crash site and Safaya’s political struggles. Despite its age, Agalta II retains a reputation for solid RPG mechanics and a self-contained adventure that doesn’t overstay its welcome. The PC-9800 visuals and soundtrack feel dated but remain serviceable for the genre. With a runtime of roughly 30-40 hours, it’s a brisk follow-up to its predecessor. While not as influential as some 90s JRPGs, it holds a niche following among fans of classic turn-based tactics and straightforward fantasy plots. The sequel’s legacy is modest but consistent with Fenrir’s other early RPG work.
