Albert Odyssey is a turn-based strategy RPG that mixes classic dungeon crawling with grid-based combat. You play Albert, a sword-wielding hero navigating a war-torn fantasy world, recruiting allies and planning attacks on enemy strongholds. Between battles, the game shifts to traditional RPG exploration, with character stats and gear upgrading through standard leveling. The story follows Albert and his crew as they oppose a dark magician’s empire, balancing dialogue choices and tactical positioning to survive increasingly complex battles. The game stands out for its tight combat loops and early ’90s charm. Its strategy layer adds depth to the genre, requiring careful unit placement and resource management during fights. Though released in 1993, it remains playable on modern Wii systems, offering a nostalgic yet polished experience. With two sequels and a dedicated retro audience, Albert Odyssey carved a niche for fans of calculated gameplay over flashy spectacle.
Players assume the role of Albert, the young heroic swordsman who lives in a fantasy world filled with monsters and mythical creatures. While much of the world remains in relative peace following a great war many years before, a military faction led by the dark magician Globus has emerged to conquer the newly pacified nations and expand their empire. With the help of Albert's friends as well as hired mercenaries, the player must travel the world and eventually confront Golbus and his forces to prevent another large-scale conflict.
