Alcatraz is a 1992 side-scrolling shooter that splits the screen between two characters whether you play alone or with a partner. You guide a team into the abandoned prison to take down a drug cartel boss and his men across three timed missions. The clock ticks toward a two-hour limit as you navigate levels that alternate between horizontal scrolling and fixed-position shooting galleries. Solo players swap between teammates on the fly while co-op lets both players tackle different areas simultaneously. The permanent split-screen design forces constant coordination even in single player mode. Levels mix fast movement with slower target-shooting sections creating a rhythm that tests timing and accuracy. Though buried in the early '90s arcade scene it remains a solid example of cooperative gameplay before online took over. The blend of exploration and bullet-dodging keeps tension high as you hunt cartel operatives through Alcatraz's halls.
Alcatraz has already sheltered the biggest mafia gangsters, but not one as ruthless as the boss of the drug cartesl, Miguel Tardiez, who took refugee with his men in the former prison. Your missions consists of capturing the dealers, burning all the stocks and destroying the secret laboratories... There, where all the others have failed, you must be successful. In case of problems, do not count on anybody to help you.
