Alien Front Online drops you into chaotic vehicular battles between humans and aliens on the Dreamcast. Choose your side then pick from three distinct mechs or tanks, each with tradeoffs in speed firepower and durability. Fight in enclosed arenas packed with destructible terrain and power-ups that boost your damage or shields. Single player modes let you test strategies but the game lives in its online multiplayer where up to eight players clash in team deathmatch style combat. Matches run for set time limits with victory going to the squad with the most kills. Get taken out and you just respawn nearby no permadeath but every kill or death counts toward your record. Launched in 2001 this Sega-published title was one of the first online shooters to let players fight as aliens rather than just humans. Its vehicle diversity and arena design encouraged creative play with some maps favoring hit-and-run tactics others close quarters brawls. While Dreamcast online adoption was limited at the time dedicated players praised the fast-paced action and balanced classes. Still the 4v4 format and simple but effective power-up system made it a standout for its era. Arcade and console versions shared identical core mechanics though online play required a separate modem adapter for Dreamcast users.
