Alien Nations is a real-time strategy game where you build and manage one of three alien civilizations on the planet Lukkat. Choose between the blue Pimmons, the warlike Amazons, or the insectoid Sajiki. Balance resource gathering, city expansion, and population morale by constructing everything from farms to theaters and... more questionable public amenities. Research upgrades, trade with rivals, and negotiate fragile alliances. But don’t expect peace to last, aggression is inevitable. Combat mechanics emphasize fast-paced unit control and terrain advantages. The game shifts between base-building, diplomacy, and sudden warfare in a way that feels chaotic but oddly satisfying. What sets it apart is the mix of absurdity and strategy. Each faction plays differently, with distinct unit designs and playstyles. Managing population happiness through bizarre infrastructure like circuses and pubs adds a surreal layer to the typical RTS formula. Released in 1999, it’s a lesser-known title that still holds up for players who enjoy gritty, no-nonsense strategy with a darkly humorous twist. The multiplayer can get vicious, and the singleplayer campaigns offer enough depth to keep things engaging despite some dated presentation. Not many games let you build a city while planning an invasion, all while keeping your aliens entertained.
