Almari is a quirky, dark-toned RPG where you play as an emotionless character named Almari who crash-lands into a bizarre world. You explore nine distinct realms tied to human emotions, solving puzzles and battling bosses in turn-based combat. Your main tools are writing instruments that let you craft attacks by scrawling words, no leveling up, just hunting for new phrases scattered through surreal environments. Each world mixes eerie and mundane vibes, with cryptic stories unfolding through oddball dialogue and shifting landscapes. The game stands out for its offbeat charm and inventive combat system that ties language to gameplay. Inspired by cult classics like Yume Nikki and Undertale, it leans into discomfort and whimsy without aiming for shock. Players praise its cryptic narrative and the way its minimalist art style amplifies the strangeness. While its 2020 release date might raise eyebrows, its cult following on PC persists for those who enjoy abstract puzzles and intentionally awkward character interactions.
The game follows Almari, a hollow objecthead who lacks any emotions. He wakes up after a crash landing in an unknown location and is told by a being known as Hama that he must travel through nine worlds created by various human emotions known as the Emotion Worlds and defeat the Emotion Holders of the worlds to gain their emotions for himself. The game focuses on dungeon crawling, puzzle solving, and turn based combat. Experience comfortable yet unsettling surreal visuals and meet strange or completely normal characters. Almari is equipped with a writing utensil and various kinds of stationery to write words that will be used as his attacks. However, Almari does not learn these attacks by leveling up, and instead must find them throughout the Emotion Worlds.
