Alshark follows Sion Asmarn and his girlfriend Shoko as they uncover secrets after a meteorite crash on their planet. You lead a party of five across multiple solar systems, navigating space in the customizable ship Atlia. Space combat switches between automatic battles and manual arcade-style shooting. On planets, explore on foot or in vehicles, battling enemies in turn-based combat viewed overhead. Only Sion is directly controlled, while allies follow AI routines and use attacks or healing skills. Armor, weapons, and vehicles add variety to encounters. The game allows characters to level past the usual 100 cap, offering extended growth. Sega CD and PC Engine CD versions add anime cutscenes, voice acting, and a revised interface with full-screen maps. The PC Engine CD version also cuts down random encounters and eases difficulty. Released in 1993, it runs on older platforms but remains notable for its flexible progression and hybrid combat styles.
