Alter Ego is a puzzle platformer where you manage two characters at once. Your hero and their shadowy double move in sync, duplicating your actions in real time. Switch between them freely to navigate tricky obstacles and solve spatial challenges. Each character interacts with the environment differently letting you use one to reach a distant platform while the other pulls a switch. The goal is to gather scattered relics across each level though the real fun comes from figuring out how to coordinate your two bodies. The game shines in its clever level design which turns the dual-control mechanic into a satisfying brain teaser. While the 2011 release date feels old now its mix of precision platforming and logic puzzles holds up. Available on a bizarre list of platforms from NES to ZX Spectrum it caters to retro fans. A small but dedicated group still discusses its trickier levels online. The lack of multiplayer or modern graphics might not grab everyone but the core loop of planning moves for two characters remains fresh.
