Ancients of Ooga is a quirky platformer with a twist. You play as a character navigating a prehistoric world filled with goofy tribes and chaotic challenges. The core loop revolves around collecting food, carrying it between locations, and puking it out to solve puzzles or trigger events. Each of the seven Oogani tribes has distinct traits and powers that you unlock through absurd interactions. Combat and exploration blend with slapstick humor as you rally these tribes to overthrow the Boolis. The controls feel tight for a game of its style though the learning curve can be steep at times. The standout feature is its inventory system which forces you to manage limited carrying space by eating items or vomiting them out. With over fifty levels and random effects from things like "narcotic slugs" the game keeps things unpredictable. Developed by NinjaBee and released in 2010 it holds up for players who enjoy experimental mechanics over polished production. The Linux support is a nice touch for older systems though the pixel art style may not appeal to everyone.
