Animal City is a point-and-click adventure where you follow a cat struggling to survive in a bleak, anthropomorphic metropolis. The first chapter drops you into a routine disrupted by hunger and empty pockets. Your feline protagonist must navigate a crumbling home life and bureaucratic school system to snag a free meal. Click to explore environments and long-click to manipulate objects, uncovering a world where animals juggle dystopian hardships. The tone is grim but grounded, with humor emerging from everyday struggles. This project stands out for its unconventional protagonist and deadpan take on systemic neglect. While short and serving as a prologue, it hints at deeper themes through sparse dialogue and environmental storytelling. Built for browsers, it runs smoothly on Chrome and Firefox. The developer’s candid note about limited testing adds to its DIY charm. A quiet, character-driven opener that feels fresh in its simplicity.
The game is the story of a cat in a dystopian city called La Città degli Animali (Animal City). Here I published the first charapter: the cat must go to school. It is the dawn of the first of September and a cat spent a night in a deep sleep. He just unrolled and woke up being hungry. Unfortunately, as you will see, there is no food or money at home, and there is only one place where you can eat for free: the school canteen.
