Arcade Archives brings you Bells & Whistles, a 1991 Konami shooter that follows Twinbee and Winbee on a rescue mission. Players pilot their ship through stages to collect bells which grant various power-ups or charge up special shots. The goal is simple enough. You must stop the alien Iva from taking over Planet Mel while dodging bullets and enemies. Co-op mode lets two players team up for extra firepower during specific attacks. This version runs on PS4 and Switch with full single player support. The game stands out because of its colorful sprite work and tight controls that feel authentic to the era. It has a dedicated community that appreciates how the bells system changes each run based on what you pick up. Data shows players often return for high score runs since the difficulty ramps up quickly in later stages. The multiplayer aspect adds a layer of strategy as partners can coordinate special attacks to clear dense enemy patterns. This entry in the collection keeps the original charm while fitting right into modern arcade archives libraries.
Set several years after the events of the original TwinBee, TwinBee and WinBee are relaxing at their island when they receive an SOS signal from the distant planet of Meru. The signal contains a message sent by Queen Melora, who pleads for the salvation of her planet from the invading forces of the evil alien Iva. TwinBee and his friends decides to set off to outer space to defeat the forces of Iva and save Planet Meru.
