About

Arch Rivals is a 1989 basketball arcade game that cuts the roster down to two players per team and ramps up the physicality. Instead of standard play, you punch opponents, steal the ball mid-dribble, and shove through defense. Each match follows basketball scoring but adds a fighting layer, players can throw punches between possessions and use brute force to disrupt plays. The simplified two-on-two format makes quick decisions and aggressive tactics key, whether you’re playing solo or head-to-head. The game earned a cult following for its chaotic energy and as a precursor to Midway’s NBA Jam series. Its unapologetic emphasis on on-court brawls over refined gameplay set it apart in the sports genre. While it lacks the polish of later titles, fans appreciate its raw, punch-first approach. With modes for local multiplayer and a legacy tied to arcade basketball evolution, it’s a niche pick for those who enjoy games where elbows and elbows matter more than three-pointers.

Storyline

The objective is to outscore the opponent. There are only two players on each team on the court, rather than the standard 5 men/team that is standard in basketballl.
