About

Arcus is a first-person RPG where you steer your hero through a menu-driven world. Choose locations on a map to explore, then switch to another menu to battle enemies in dungeons. Combat unfolds in turns: you can swing a weapon or hurl spells at foes. Stats and progression mirror AD&D mechanics, leaning closer to Western RPG traditions than typical Japanese ones. The interface feels clunky by modern standards but stays focused on tactical decisions. The game’s story centers on a kingdom caught in magical overuse, now facing divine retribution. You follow Jedah, a rookie knight hoping to avert disaster. Released in 1988, it’s one of the earliest Japanese games to use first-person menus, which feels oddly ahead of its time. Despite its dated visuals, fans of old-school tactical play and stat-heavy grinding might find it nostalgic. The blend of Western-style systems in a Japanese title makes it a curious footnote in RPG history.

Storyline

The people of the kingdom Arkases have mastered the ways of magic, thanks to their connection to the world of spirits. However, the humans used their magical powers to wage war on each other and to disrupt the harmony. Finally, the Golden Dragon told the king of Arkases that his country will be punished for the deeds of the humans. Enter Jedah Chaf, a young man who has left his home village to fulfill his dream of becoming a knight. Will Jedah be able to save his country and to restore peace in the world?
