Argentum Online is a 1999 MMORPG built around character creation and cooperative play. Set in the medieval world of Argentum, players pick from five races and 20 professions to craft their avatars. Combat and crafting systems encourage teamwork, with options ranging from blacksmithing to piracy. The game's early release date and South American origins make it a curiosity among retro RPG fans. The game's community became as much a part of its legacy as the code. Gamemasters and players met in real life, and fans helped build four variants by 2001. Source code released under GNU GPL in 2003 let modders keep it alive. Argentum 2 was planned but never launched. Argentine outlets called it a genre pioneer with a grassroots feel, thanks to its open-ended design and lack of corporate control. Over 20 years old but still tinkered with by enthusiasts.

Storyline

Argentum Online is an online multiplayer role playing game which takes place in a medieval fantasy world. The world is known as Argentum, it's populated by all sorts of creatures: evil and good. Players can create their own characters, choosing among five races (Elf, Human, Gnome, Dark Elf, Dwarf) and up to 20 different professions (fighter, assassin, blacksmith, carpenter, pirate, etc).
