"One particular mission ended in a robot boss that was resistant to the types of weapons I had spent all of my upgrade materials on thus far. OK, I told myself, that's on me. I should have been prepared. The problem then became finding the requisite components to upgrade an energy weapon I had neglected. In order to do so, I had to slog back through previous environments and take on side quests that ran the gamut of quality: One sent me on a prolonged fetch quest in search of a suitcase, while another tasked me with gathering testicles from slain enemies. One hour and countless frustrations later, I was ready to once again take on that robot boss."

Ascent DX drops you on a dead planet where forgotten machines and stone carvings hint at a lost society. Move through crumbling structures and dangerous landscapes using basic but responsive platforming, jumps, climbs, slides, with progress tied to finding tech upgrades that open new paths. Solve light puzzles by using these tools creatively while piecing together the world’s history from scattered logs and environmental clues. The story takes a backseat to exploration, letting the setting’s eerie silence and mechanical decay speak for itself. The game’s strength lies in its tight loop of discovery and progression. No combat or dialogue-heavy scenes, just a focus on uncovering secrets through movement and tool upgrades. Apskeppet’s debut feels like a love letter to methodical exploration, with levels designed to reward careful observation. While early builds show a clean, atmospheric experience, the lack of community data makes it hard to predict its lasting appeal. Still, its deliberate pacing and minimalist design could click with players craving a quiet, puzzle-driven adventure. Coming March 26, 2025.
