Ascii Sector lets you pilot a spaceship through a universe full of combat trade and exploration. Starting with a basic ship you take on missions haul cargo and battle enemies in space on planetary surfaces and inside other vessels. As you earn credits you can upgrade your craft or trade it in for something better. The game includes a custom scripting system that lets you design your own missions or play through ones made by others. The game’s open-ended approach and mod support have kept its community active since release in 2016. Players appreciate the flexibility to shape their own stories and the cross-platform availability on PC Mac and Linux. While the ASCII-style interface might take some getting used to it adds a distinct retro charm that sets it apart from more polished space sims.
