About

Assimilate! is a 50s-inspired social deduction game where 5-10 players team up to spot a disguised robot trying to crash a sockhop. Set in a retro world where robots can’t wear socks or dance, you play as either a human trying to expose the infiltrator or the robot (and their helper, the Programmer) aiming to disrupt the party. The game blends quick conversation, bluffing, and voting to determine who gets kicked out each round. Online or local play supports chaotic group chats and face-to-face banter, with turns focused on piecing together clues and questioning motives. The game’s charm comes from its quirky setting and tight mechanics. The Programmer adds an extra layer of strategy by aiding the robot’s goals, creating a dynamic cat-and-mouse chase. With a 78% rating on Steam, players praise its accessibility and replayability for groups who enjoy light-hearted deduction. Friendship is Fun LLC’s design keeps matches brisk, with each round lasting around 20 minutes. Released in 2021, it’s a solid pick for friends looking to laugh and second-guess each other over snacks and (metaphorical) sock hops.

Storyline

The year is 1950-something, and you and your friends want to go blow off some steam and cut a rug. But rumor has it a robot of unknown origins has infiltrated your group using a brilliant disguise... and plans to crash the big annual Sock-Hop (with the help of their friend, the “Programmer”). Now we all know Robots can’t hop (or wear socks), so Robots are strictly banned from the festivities, which means, you and your human friends need to work together to identify (and kick out) that pesky Robot or... your whole group will get the boot!!
