Asylum is a prototype overhead shooter from Leland Corporation that never saw an arcade release. Players pick one of three distinct heroes to navigate the dark, maze-like halls of a sinister building. Rip uses knives, Rak carries a standard firearm, and Rol swings a heavy chain mace. Your goal is simple enough on paper but tricky in practice. You must fight through creepy monsters while searching for elevators that lead deeper into the facility. The path winds up toward a final showdown with Mr. G before you can escape alive. This game stands out because it offers three very different play styles within the same framework. The unreleased status adds a layer of mystery to what was likely a tight, action-focused arcade experience. Playing as Rol feels satisfyingly heavy compared to the speed required when controlling Rip. The level design forces you to constantly switch between shooting and jumping to clear narrow corridors. It is a raw look at what could have been a classic entry in the genre before development stopped.
