About

Atomine is a twin-stick shooter with rogue-lite mechanics that layers procedural generation over a cyber-themed narrative. You control a virus navigating digital landscapes, blasting enemies to clear levels and unlock progression. Each run reshapes the environment, requiring you to adapt with weapon modules and resource management. Combat leans on fast reflexes and strategic upgrades, balancing energy allocation between offense and survival. The minimalist art style keeps focus on chaotic firefights and systemic challenges. The game’s real-world inspiration sets it apart. It reimagines the Stuxnet malware’s 2011 discovery as a first-person mission, using ambient voice logs to contextualize your digital infiltration. While the 2017 release date means it’s seen some competition, its niche blend of arcade action and historical fiction still appeals to fans of roguelikes with a narrative hook. Available on multiple platforms, it offers a lean but replayable experience with a distinct cyberpunk edge.

Storyline

In 2011, Sergey Ulasen, discovered STUXNET, a malicious computer worm, initially spreaded via Microsoft Windows, and targeted Siemens industrial control systems, defined as a sleeping threat, waiting for a trigger to start its activation. STUXNET is the first discovered malware that spies on and subverts industrial systems, and the first to include a programmable logic controller (PLC) rootkit. The worm has been founded infecting especially nuclear power plants and oil drilling systems. ATOMINE, like STUXNET, is a virus who needs to get stronger in order to reach and eventually infect and compile itself into the target source code. The electronic voice in the background and many element on screen, tell to the player what's the target of the run.
