Attack on Alpha Centauri is a straightforward top down shooter where you control a spacecraft on the bottom of the screen dodging and firing at waves of wasp like enemies. Each level is a static battlefield forcing you to focus on quick reflexes and precise aiming as enemies swarm down in formation. Simple controls and no nonsense gameplay make it a direct challenge from the 1980s. This BBC Micro game stands out for its resemblance to Galaxian but with its own insect themed twist. Released at the end of 1983 it’s a relic of early arcade style shooting games that prioritized action over complexity. Players looking for something old school and uncomplicated might find it nostalgic though modern standards could find the graphics basic. Still it’s a solid example of its era’s shooter design.
