Bad Ben casts you as Tom Riley a guy who buys a house without seeing it and immediately regrets it. The game uses found footage style clips to track your progress as you search for keys unlock doors and avoid spooky encounters. It’s a slow burn puzzle driven experience where most of the tension comes from creeping around dimly lit spaces and wondering what’s lurking just offscreen. The humor from the source material carries over with Tom’s deadpan reactions to clearly absurd situations. Based on a series of low budget horror parodies the game leans into its B movie roots with intentionally cheesy effects and over the top dialogue. Released in 2021 it gained a following for its self aware charm and minimalist approach to scares. With no multiplayer options or complex systems it’s a straightforward ghost hunting simulator that works best when played with friends for maximum mockery.
