Badass Brigade is a 2D indie platformer with a focus on chaotic, fast-paced combat. Developed by Marauder Squad and released on December 31, 2026, it’s set on the fictional planet Idronis, a place frozen in interstellar lockdown. You play as a Brigadier, stuck in a bizarre bureaucratic purgatory, forced to fight machines, crustacean warlords, and sentient bugs to uncover the truth. The game blends slapstick humor with platforming challenges, letting you punch, grab, and throw enemies in a mix of single-player missions. It’s a quirky, over-the-top romp with a surprisingly snappy rhythm, aimed at players who don’t take themselves too seriously.
Combat is the core: you spend most sessions in tight arenas, dodging waves of enemies by shooting, punching, or grappling to hurl them into others. Each mission tasks you with clearing waves or completing objectives, with unlockable weapons like sticky grenades and electrified bats adding variety. Exploration is light but rewarding, hidden caches hold gear that swaps out attack styles, like a hammer for slow, powerful hits or a whip for range. Controls are responsive, with a focus on quick reflexes and timing throws for chain damage. Sessions rarely last longer than 30 minutes, but the loop of unlocking new tools and replaying levels to max stats keeps it engaging. The 2D platforming elements feel more like set dressing than core mechanics, with most action playing out in close quarters.
PlayPile community ratings average 8.4/10, with 68% completion and 12-hour average playtime. 72% of players tag it as “humorous,” 65% as “action-packed,” and 58% as “quirky.” Critics praise its “wildly creative combat” but note the story lacks polish. Achievement count is 47, with 45% of players earning full completion. Price is $19.99, with 52% of buyers finishing the game within a week. Reviews highlight the “ridiculous weapon variety” but caution that “the story struggles to match the chaos.” Completion rates drop to 41% past the mid-game, though 70% of those who finish do so in under 15 hours.
Badass Brigade is a pick-up-and-play gem for fans of absurd 2D brawls. Its $20 price tag feels fair for the weapon and gear variety, though 47 achievements may not justify a second playthrough. The humor hits hardest in short bursts, making it ideal for casual sessions. Stick with it past the first 10 hours, once you unlock the “Glowing Hammer of Doom” and a few unlockables, the combat stays fresh. If you like fast, punchy fights over deep narratives, this one’s worth a shot. But don’t expect a story that ties up neatly.
You are a Brig (short for Brigadier). You, along with everyone else around here, are stuck on planet Idronis after it was placed under Planetary Lockdown several hundred years ago for mysterious reasons. Unable to continue with interstellar acts of piracy, tomfoolery, and other shenanigans, boredom and disillusionment have set in. Looking for a change of pace, you abandoned your post to try and make a living by selling...deep fried bug legs. Clearly, this venture does not last long. New intel suggests that it may be possible to lift the Lockdown, and perhaps a way uncover the reason it was started in the first place... Aside from the Badass Brigade, the other unlucky sons caught up in this mess are: - The Galactic Police Department (GPD). They’re the primary governing body over most of the galaxy. Yes, the police department also does the governing. The GPD is staffed entirely with machine life, all controlled by a central AI. - The Interstellar Armada, a roaming space fleet of techno-crustaceans led by Admiral Jer’cayce (or as everyone else calls him, Jerkface). He is the selfproclaimed arch nemesis of the Badass Brigade due to various reasons that we can’t remember. - Lately, the native ever-glistening and poppable Boombugs of planet Idronis have begun to exhibit some mildly upsetting behavior, such as performing blood sacrifices and unholy rituals. It’s probably not worth investigating.
