Bard's Gold is a 2D platformer with a retro aesthetic and light RPG mechanics. You navigate levels to find keys and reach exits while learning controls and hazards through trial and error. Movement and puzzle solving take priority over combat. Each run requires memorizing layouts and adapting to environmental traps. No tutorials guide your progress. The game generates new level arrangements each playthrough balancing memorization with surprise. Collected gems let you buy permanent upgrades after deaths improving future attempts. Released in 2015 it runs on modern systems and older hardware including PlayStation Vita. The story follows a treasure hunter chasing a goblin through a magical portal though it takes a backseat to the gameplay loop. Available on PC consoles and Macs for players wanting challenging low-speed platforming.

Storyline

"While I was adventuring, I got my saddle containing the legendary Bard's Gold stolen by a filthy goblin. It has been my Family Treasure for generations... I had to get it back at all costs! Giving chase to the burglar, I went through a portal that sent me to this strange world... I must escape and return the Bard's Gold to where it belongs!"
