Barrage is a two-player artillery game where you take turns launching projectiles to wipe out the other side’s forces. Each match starts with 100 troops per player and a randomly generated landscape that shifts as craters reshape the terrain. You manually input angle and velocity for every shot while accounting for wind direction and speed. Cities flanking the battlefield add tension, hitting them costs points. The more soldiers you retain, the more shots you can fire in each round, with specialized targeting options opening up once you stay above 35 troops. The game’s charm lies in its strategic depth and hardware quirks. The BBC Micro’s limitations make each explosion and terrain shift feel oddly satisfying, and the turn-based pacing rewards patience. While it lacks modern polish, its physics-based aiming and escalating battlefield chaos have kept it a niche favorite among retro strategy players.
