About

Baseball is a straightforward sports simulation that brings the fundamentals of the game to early Nintendo hardware. It plays like a simple but functional translation of real baseball rules, with players swinging bats, throwing pitches, and running bases in turn-based exchanges. Local multiplayer options let you compete or team up, choosing from six teams that vary by region. In Japan, the rosters feature Central League squads, while US versions switch to MLB clubs, all with minimal differences beyond uniforms and names. The focus stays on basic mechanics over flashy features. This title stands out as one of Nintendo’s earliest third-party releases, dating back to 1983. Its no-frills approach feels nostalgic for retro sports fans, offering a lean, replayable experience that prioritizes accessibility. Despite its age, the clean design and straightforward controls make it a quick pick for anyone curious about 8-bit sports game design. The lack of complex strategies keeps it light, but the multiplayer matches still hold up for friendly competition.

Storyline

The game follows the basic rules of baseball, with no particular additions. The object is to score the most runs. There are six different teams available in the different versions of the game. For the Famicon players, the teams represent members of the Japanese Central League, and the NES version includes members of Major League Baseball. There are, however, no significant differences between the different teams aside from uniform colour.
