Bat Attack is a fast paced shooter where you pilot a ship that must zigzag across the screen blasting waves of bats as they dive toward you. These winged pests swarm down reappearing from the top once they vanish off the bottom while their relentless fire forces you to dodge as much as you shoot. Each bat that brushes your ship costs a life so timing and reflexes are key. After clearing the bats the real test begins, maneuver through a barrage of spinning discs surviving long enough to trigger the next round. The whole ordeal plays out in under two minutes but don’t let that fool you. Despite its 1983 release and Commodore 64 roots Bat Attack still packs a punch for fans of no frills action. It strips away complexity delivering pure twitch based fun in short bursts. The simplicity of controls and escalating tension in its disc stage make it memorable, even modern arcade titles struggle to match its efficiency.
