Swing into action as Batman in this mobile spin-off from NetherRealm Studios. Set before the events of Arkham City, the game tasks you with stopping Joker and his crew from causing chaos in Gotham’s slums. Using simple touchscreen controls, you punch, grapple, and counter waves of enemies including Two-Face, Penguin, and Solomon Grundy. Each victory nets points to boost Batman’s strength, unlock tools like the Batarang, or dress him in alternate gear. The focus is fast, no-frills combat with a roster of familiar foes. The game’s strength lies in its accessibility and roster of villains. While the story is thin, the tactile swipe-and-jump mechanics work surprisingly well on touchscreens. Fans of the series might appreciate facing off against Deathstroke in a brief but tense showdown. Released in 2011, it holds up as a quick, punchy mobile fix for Batman fans. Shorter than its console counterparts, but it packs enough variety to keep grinding through baddies satisfying.
After the announcement of Arkham City, a new super-prison in based in the decaying urban slums of Gotham City, by Mayor Quincy Sharp, the Joker breaks out from Arkham Asylum, joined by several other villains, who cause mayhem in the streets of Gotham. Intent on stopping the escapees, Batman first goes after Two-Face, defeating him and his gang on the streets, soon defeating Penguin and his gang, who have escaped from the Blackgate Penitentiary, and Solomon Grundy in the sewers as well. He is later attacked by the assassin Deathstroke and his goons, hired by Hugo Strange, the warden of Arkham City, at the Steel Mill, but Batman prevails and leaves them to be arrested and incarcerated at Blackgate, while Strange formulates a new plan to defeat the Dark Knight in the future.
