Battleborn drops players into a chaotic sci-fi future where five factions scramble to survive on the last star in the universe. You pick from a roster of heroes each with distinct skills and mix shooting brawling and strategy to tackle co-op campaigns or go head-to-head in multiplayer. The story follows these battleborn warriors as they team up to stop the Varlesi a force determined to erase the last beacon of hope. Console versions let friends join up to four players on split-screen for all modes making it easy to team up without grabbing extra controllers. What stands out is the blend of genres, shooting hacking and tactical planning all get equal time. The game leans on Gearbox's experience from Borderlands offering a wild aesthetic and chaotic combat. While the single-player campaign didn't blow away critics the multiplayer and co-op modes keep things lively. Launched in 2016 it's still a solid pick for groups looking for fast action across PC and consoles.

Storyline

"Battleborn’s story is set in a distant sci-fi fantasy future, where all but one star in the universe has gone dark at the hands of the vicious Varlesi. A single solitary beacon of hope remains – the last star, Solus. In the wake of the chaos, different species of survivors take refuge in the Solus system and form five factions based on their beliefs. Heroes called battleborn emerge from each faction and fight for what little resources are left in the system. Now, the Varelsi are threatening to finish what they’ve started, and only a united team of the universe’s most powerful heroes can stop them."
