Beast Wars: Transformers is a 1997 shooter that swaps metal-clad robots for animal hybrids in a battle for Energon supremacy. Play as Maximals or Predacons, switching between robot and beast forms to fight enemies, scavenge resources, and complete missions. The auto-targeting system simplifies combat but doesn’t make it easy, enemy fire forces quick reflexes while your Energon gauge depletes. When it runs dry, transform into Beast mode to roam freely and hunt power-ups, though you’ll be defenseless until refueled. Ten playable Transformers with distinct abilities and 24 main missions (plus eight bonus ones) offer replayability, while four varied environments keep encounters fresh. The game’s split-screen co-op lets two players team up, a rarity in ’97 shooters. Its premise, a time-warped Transformers conflict set on a dinosaur-era planet, adds a wild twist to the franchise. While not a household name, it captures the Transformers ethos of strategic transformation and warfare. With PC, Mac, and PlayStation ports, it’s a relic for fans curious about how the Maximals and Predacons evolved beyond the cartoon.
"The Maximals and I have no choice but to stop Megatron and his Predacon minions before they destroy us all! Freedom may be the right of sentient beings, but to protect the greater good, we must vanquish the Galaxy from these evil Predacon creatures! It won't be easy ... but nothing worthwhile ever is!" The everlasting Transformers line has entered into a metamorphosis once again. But this time, battle-ready robots are fused with the likes of insects and animals as their evil and do-good counterparts respectively. As you enter the Beast Wars game, a Maximal ship has chased a Predacon vessel through a time warp – and both have crash landed on a planet much like Earth, in the time that dinosaurs ruled. Upon landing, the Predacons have stolen a golden disk containing the location of a major Energon source that, if found, will enable them to resume an intergalactic war with the Maximals. The Maximals and Predacons realize the power of the Energon is so intense it will damage their robotic structures with prolonged exposure. Therefore, to survive in this environment, both groups use bio-genetic engineering to fuse their robotic body structures with native animal life forms. The result: wild animals which can transform into robot warriors to engage in an explosive fight to the finish. The game is set even further in the future than the television series. The Maximals and Predacons have settled in distinct areas around the planet, and have developed their own bases and armies to aid in the fight against their opposing forces.
