Beatmania 2ndMix is a rhythm game where players match scrolling notes using a turntable and five keys. The screen shows bars descending in columns, and hitting them at the right moment requires quick reflexes. This sequel introduces a hidden modifier that obscures notes halfway down the screen, adding a new layer of challenge. Difficulty levels now range from 1 to 6, letting players pick their poison. The tracklist includes all songs from the first game plus 13 new tracks and remixes for a total of 25. The hidden modifier feature made its debut here, a trick later used in many BEMANI titles. Its split-screen multiplayer let friends compete head-to-head, a rarity in rhythm games at the time. With 1998 arcade roots, it helped solidify Konami’s rhythm game legacy. Players still cite it as a key entry in the series for its tight controls and escalating difficulty.
