Beauty or the Beast lets you play as either Belle or the Beast in a reimagined fairy tale. Belle's father is trapped in a mysterious castle, and she must navigate its rooms to free him. Meanwhile the Beast tracks down invaders in his domain. The game uses point and click controls to explore pre rendered environments collect objects and consult a map. Progress often requires solving minigames like rebuilding armor lighting torches in order guiding frogs across lily pads or shielding a moth from spiders. Each character's path unfolds separately with distinct challenges and perspectives. The game stands out for its creative minigames which range from frantic to methodical. Two owl brothers Horace and Boris Finefeather provide hints and assistance depending on which side you're on. Released in 2001 it retains a nostalgic charm with its hand drawn visuals and dual narrative approach. While the story is familiar the gameplay mechanics feel fresh thanks to the variety of puzzles. Fans of classic adventure titles might appreciate its straightforward but inventive design.
