Beeline is a single-player arcade game where you steer a character named Hank through a series of hazards to reach a hive. Navigate a pixelated maze while dodding spiky mushrooms, lurking spiders, and moving enemies like lizards. Along the way you gather scattered pollen, fruits, and honey to boost your score. The challenge lies in balancing speed with precision, too slow and you miss points, too fast and you crash into one of the many traps. What makes Beeline stand out is its tight controls and escalating difficulty. Each level introduces new threats and tighter corridors, punishing hesitation with instant resets. The game’s 1980s simplicity feels oddly modern in its focus on pure reaction time. Released in 1985 for the BBC Microcomputer System it’s a relic of early home gaming with a surprisingly twitchy, rewarding loop.
